Action Project Presentations
In class for the past few days,We have been doing presentatons on our projects about making a difference. My favorite presentation that I liked was a girl in my class that did her project on domestic violence. I thought that her presentation was informative and it connected to the audiences emotions. I learned that I very small ratio of couples go through domestic violence. I was shocked at how low this ratio was. I thought that domestic violence is a really serious issue because many people get killed every year because of domestic violence. I also think that the children and women that are effected by this violence should be seriously helped. This presentation made me realize tht domestic violence should be more taken care of and prevented that it is now.

The Search For Music.
Given the pros and cons of your research topic, on what side of that issue are you emerging? Why?
Music is one thing that any person anywhere can have a connection to with someone else half way across the world. I think that’s why it is a fun topic to research. Not only do I love music with a great passion, but I could find so many recourses that have people that feel the same way. I think a pro of this topic is that I can get many different points of views on it. Everyone likes and dislikes different types of music. I think you could really get into a good conversation about music with anyone, because everyone listens to music. There are so many different genres of music too. The only con I could think of is the fact that finding numbers and statistics about music is a little bit difficult. But for now, I can really relate to my project and I would like to continue on.

The Girl Who LIkes to Fight Crime?
What pro/ con issues do you see emerging in your beginning research about your position paper topic? What are your sentiments regarding these issues?
Sammy Keyes spied someone across the street stealing a wallet. The thief saw her. She wanted to tell the police, but didn't for three reasons. One, she was using binoculars that she wasn't supposed to play with. Two, she was living in her Grandma's apartment building where she wasn't supposed to live. Three, she could have told the police, but the police wouldn't believe her anyway. So what was she to do? Solve the case herself! Duh.This is the book i have started to read this semester. I have started reading the story of Sammy Keyes: The Hotel Thief by Wendelin Van Draanen. Sammy also has to deal with Mrs. Graybill, her grandmother's next-door neighbor, who doesn't want Sammy to live in the building with her grandmother. This is illegal in the first place because her grandmother lives in a retirement building where the grandchildren are not allowed to live in. Mrs. Graybill always has an eye on what is going on outside in halls. Which is why Sammy has to be very sneaky while sneaking up the fire escape to her grandmothers room. Of coarse, there is also a school bully named Heather that Sammy has to deal with everyday at school. Heather's tricks are low and dirty. To get even, Sammy has to pay back Heather for what she does. So far, Sammy has to deal with many things. This is tough for a girl in Junior High. This is why I think that if she doesn't have to deal with something, she shouldn't. Her issues can be heavy on her shoulders sometimes. I think that Sammy could very easily drop the search for that hotel thief or could stop the feud between her and Heather Acosta leaving her shoulders with less weight on them. Either way, a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do, and i think that if Sammy thinks its the right thing to do, she should go for it.

PLN #3: Opposites Attract
In the book The Midnight Twins by Jacquelyn Mitchard, I've realized that Mally and Merry are alike but yet so different in many ways. I wonder how somethings can be so alike but so different at the same time. In this book the author shows great examples of how things that are considered like that. Mally and Merry are identical twins. Ever since birth, Mally and Merry have looked exactly the same, thought the same thoughts, and have had the same dreams. The twins also poses different qualities. For example, after the fire in the house had struck, all the attention was driving Mally crazy. But Merry never wanted the attention to go away. Other examples could be how Mally is sporty and Merry is girly. Mally and Merry act differently but yet at the same time they manage to act the same way. I think it is interesting how this can happen at the same time. I also think it is interesting how they can "feel" each other and "hear" each other. It makes me wonder how it would feel to have a twin like that.

PLN #2: Good People Doing Bad Things
If you don’t know something from both perspectives, you could think someone was an awful person for doing something bad. In The Midnight Twins by Jacquelyn Mitchard, The Brynn twins pull a prank on their neighbor Drew. If you were to just watch this prank happen you would just think that these twins are big jerks. But, if you knew the background story, you wouldn’t judge so quickly. The Brynn Twins are considered “good people”. They have good grades, good athletics, they are good at being nice, and they have no criminal record! You could think that they were the opposite of good when they dumped a 20 pound bag of bird seeds onto the roof of their neighbor’s car as he was in the middle of a date. You could also think that Drew is a jerk when he posted an embarrassing picture of a twin all over school. Then again you don’t know that The Brynn twins’ neighbor, Drew, is one of their closest friends! When you think about it this way, you tend to say: “oh well those people are just friends being friends.” They didn’t do a completely bad thing when you know that the prank they pulled was on their best friend! Also the prank was not intended to be hateful! So, I think that good people do considered “bad things” because they know that this “bad thing” that they are doing will not be truly harmful to the other person and that the other person will fully understand. Sometimes, before you judge the fact that someone is a bad person, you have to know the inside and both perspectives of a story.

PLN #1: The Midnight Twins
In the book The Midnight Twins by Jacquelyn Mitchard, Meredith and Mallory figure out things about themselves that they never would have suspected. I just started reading this Book called The Midnight Twins so I'm don't not sure what this book is fully about yet, but I do know that this book is going to be a suspenseful mystery. Meredith and Mallory are twins and they realized that they could "read" each others minds when they were born. As babies, they would scream their heads off when they were apart. At the age of five, Meredith disappeared. There mother realized that Mallory could somehow communicate with Meredith. This makes me wonder how it must be to have a twin. I think I would want to have a twin for a day or two to see how its like. I would see if you could actually communicate with each other. I think it would be fun to have someone to relate to or open up to all the time. Like a friend, but you don't have to question whether she's a good friend or not because she's family. I am excited to see what this book reveals and I hope I can write more about it in the future.Thursday, August 19, 2010
